Type species: Amyotea dystercoides Ellenrieder, 1862 (= Cimex malabaricus Fabricius, 1775) by subsequent designation. Number of Australian species: Three. Extralimital Distribution: Australian Region - East Timor, Indonesia (Maluku, Sulawesi, West Timor), Papua New Guinea (Bismarck Archipelago); Oriental Region - Bangladesh, Burma, (= Myanmar), China (People's Republic), India, Indonesia (Java, Kalimantan, Sumatra), Philippines, Sri Lanka, Taiwan. Australian Distribution: Tropical regions; Queensland and Northern Territory. Biology: Unknown. Host(s): Unknown. Diagnosis: Colour Dorsum pale brown to dark orange with dark brown markings on the scutellum and hemelytra. Venter pale brown. Legs and antennae pale brown or orange, some species with dark brown legs basally. Texture Moderately to densely and uniformly punctate. Vestiture Glabrous. Structure Body - Elongate-ovoid, dorsally convex. Length 7.9 mm -12.5 mm; width 4.3 mm -8.9 mm. Head - Subtriangular to quadrate, moderately dorsoventrally orientated, shorter than pronotum; jugae equal in length to clypeus, laterally carinate; antennifer processes present; five antennal segments, first antennal segment shorter than the distance between the eyes; bucculae elongate (posteriorly beyond antennifers); vertex cross-sectional shape slightly convex; labium reaching between the middle coxae and the second abdominal sternum, first labial segment longer than bucculae; eyes not stylate, directed laterally. Pronotum - Calli present; anterior lobe surface flat; humeral angles rounded; lateral margins explanate; anterolateral margins simple or slightly crenulate and arcuate to sinuate; posterolateral and posterior margins straight to slightly sinuate. Scutellum - Triangular, apex broadly rounded; lateral calli present; medial callus absent. Thoracic sterna - Prosternum flat; mesosternum with a low raised keel; metasternum flat. External efferent system - Evaporative scent gland covering approximately half the metepisternum; peritreme only marginally elongate, apically pointed. Hemelytra - Macropterous, longer than abdomen; membrane veins linear and mostly subparallel. Legs - Fore tibiae sulcate. Abdomen - Connexiva visible dorsally; laterotergites unarmed.
